The cornerstone of the building was laid on June 9, 1938 and the building was completed and occupied on August 4, 1938.

The Milwaukie fire department occupied the south side of the ground floor. The entire north side of the building was occupied by the library.

The mayor’s office and council chambers were located on the second floor, as will be a large community center hall.

In 2021, Henry Point Development was selected to purchase and redevelop the building to accomodate two local and popular tenants: pFriem Brewing and Keeper Coffee.

The project is underway with anticipated completion in April of 2025.
